The Environment
There are some projects which have been created in the world for the sustainable development.
About one hundred countries take part in the world environment day the 5 June. On this day, the environment is the main focus of many actions, lessons, and demonstrations. It sensitizes and makes people aware about the problem of sustainable development.
In December 2009, in Copenhagen, the United Nations will organise a meeting because the Kyoto protocol is going to end on 31st December 2012. So the main aims of this meeting are to find a law for the reduction of temperature on earth (greenhouse effect).
There is another program which is controlled by the United Nations. They have decided to plant many trees for the protection of the Earth. And the protection is based on conservation of the biodiversity.
A forum for energy and climate also exists. It gathered 17 countries that are the main responsible countries for greenhouse gas emission. A few actions have been decided about the development, new technologies and energy.
At our own individual level, we can do a lot of things to protect the environment. For example, now, saving water is very important. So we have to do simple things like turning off the tap when we brush our teeth, trying to "collect" water when it rains or not watering the garden during the summer. It is possible to release less CO2 if we use public transportation or bike for short journeys. Then, we can also sort rubbish into different types for recycling. To finish with, it will be better if we invest in new powers like solar power or if we heat our houses thanks to geothermal energy.
